Are motorized vehicles and ATV's allowed in the Forest for Learning?ATV's and motorized vehicles are not allowed in the Forest for Learning except for emergencies and authorized maintenance activities. Are bikes allowed in the Forest for Learning?While bicycles aren't forbidden, trails are not constructed with MTB use in mind. They're rideable, but not easily. Please do not use them while the trails are wet! For our full land-use policy, please click here.

Can I ski in the forest?Yes! Many of the trails are great fun with fresh snow! For our full land-use policy, please click here.

Are dogs allowed in the Forest for Learning?Friendly, well-behaved dogs are welcome! During school hours, please keep dogs on-leash, as you will often find classes of children throughout the forest. At all other times, dogs should be kept under the owner's control. For our full land-use policy, please click here.

Can the public use the forest classrooms?In order to ensure student safety, we ask that you remain respectful of of the outdoor classrooms. If they are unused, a walk through to glance around is fine, but please do not alter anything that could affect students' learning. Can we start a fire? Can we camp in the forest?Fires and camping are not permitted without prior authorization from Forest for Learning. While forest classrooms have firepits, organizations using them have established procedure for notifying from the Putney Fire Department. Can we hunt or trap in the forest?Hunting and trapping is not permitted under any circumstances. Part of our mission is to protect and preserve the ecological integrity of the forest and wetland. For our full land-use policy, please click here.
